At A Child Grows, we want all families to have the best information and support to make all the decisions that this crazy world of parenthood throws at us, from conception to college. To that end, we strive to bring you the best, most accurate (and often entertaining!) resources in the parenting world. Check out this short list of our favorite, most informative (and often hilarious!) breastfeeding resources on the web, from our Editor in Chief, who is also a Certified Lactation Counselor.
KellyMom: I bookmarked this site nearly eight years ago when I was pregnant with my older daughter because it was recommended to me by a co-worker. At first glance, I was completely overwhelmed at the volume of information, but as I dug deeper, I was thrilled to have found this resource. The site not only gives evidence-based information about breastfeeding, it addresses breastfeeding from pregnancy to all ages and stages. In recent years, they’ve started to add more parenting content as well, which always keeps me coming back for more. Whether you’re pregnant for the first time or nursing your two year old, this is the online resource for you.
United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA): Breastfeeding doesn’t always go according to plan and there are lots of reasons for that, ranging from your birth experience, to postpartum discomfort, to lack of support in the hospital or immediately postpartum, but never fear, you can always find a local International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) near you. Many of them even make house calls! If you’re looking for local support to assist you in your breastfeeding journey, the USLCA website’s search tool is a fantastic place to start.
The Leaky Boob: In addition to some of the funny and satirical content on this blog, there are lots of great posts from experts about breastfeeding. I like this site in particular because it isn’t always technical and serious, but balances solid advice and information with the humor that you sometimes need when it’s 3am and your baby has been nursing for six hours straight. This site and their corresponding Facebook page) got us through a lot of sleepless nights with Baby #2.
The Milk Meg: Sometimes you just need someone who will give it to you straight. That’s where The Milk Meg blog comes in. Lots of technical and evidence-based information about breastfeeding can be found on this blog, penned by breastfeeding mom and IBCLC, Meg Nagle. Meg shoots straight from the hip, so you don’t have to worry about being drowned in technical jargon, though you will get lots of wonderful information about just about every breastfeeding concern you’ve ever had. She even does breastfeeding consultations worldwide, so proximity to her is not an issue!
