If you have yet to start camp like us, then you are busy labeling and wondering how to cram all your kids’ stuff into one backpack: including a nutritious lunch that’s supposed to stay cold through a scorching hot morning. I hate to cook, let alone plan meals, so packing camp lunches makes me dread the upcoming summer. Can I send them with ham and cheese every day or will I get a call from social services?
There is a new iphone app for people like me who dread thinking about what to prepare for lunchboxes. I’ve been testing the new app, LaLa Lunchbox for the last 2 weeks and I can now officially take lunch planning off my “to do” list. How? I just hand my iphone to my kids.
LaLa Lunchbox is a fun and easy app designed to empower kids (they love picking their own lunch), save money (no more wasted, unwanted food), and save time (makes grocery shopping a breeze).
It’s easy enough that my 3.5 year old can work it and plan a pretty nutritious lunch. Each of my children designed their lunch boxes with cool monsters and then began choosing their week’s lunch. If you are worried that your kid will choose mac and cheese every day like mine, you can edit the choices available and also add your family’s preferred items.
The lunchbox selections guide a child in choosing a balanced meal. My kids are now aware that they need to select proteins, fruits and veggies to eat a balanced lunch.
Once the week’s lunches are chosen, the parent gets a grocery list. Could this make life any easier?!
I loved this app, and after giving it a solid 2 week trial with my children, I have decided that it’s how I am going to get through the rest of the summer. Thanks to Brooklyn mom of 2 (soon to be 3)- I think a lot of kids will have a variety of lunch items to unpack at camp this year.
I’m not the only one who loves LaLa Lunchbox: after a week out, it was selected by Apple to be featured on their New and Noteworthy section of the App Store Homepage and has been ranked in the top 10 best selling apps in its category.
LaLa Lunchbox is $1.99 on the App Store.
