This week I wrote about an old fashioned sweets shop opening up in Cobble Hill and it reminded me that I have been meaning to post about another old fashioned store that opened up in Brooklyn this year.
Owl & Thistle General Store doesn’t just take on the name of “general store” – it embodies the concept of it. The shop offers a wide variety of products for all family members under a single roof. Walk in and you will find greeting cards, women’s clothing, small batch food items, kids toys and clothing, bath and body products, home accessories, jewelry, totes, purses, and more.
They also sell the wares of neighborhood artisans which means you can find McClure’s Pickles, Granola Lab granola and handcrafted childrens’ toys.
The owner, Keri Cavanaugh, is an independent clothing designer and former Peace Corps volunteer so she has also sourced items from the Awava women’s cooperative in Uganda and Huggy Bunny Peruvian Cotton clothes.
Nestled in the heart of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Owl & Thistle is open Wednesdays – Saturdays 11-7 and Sundays 12-6. For more details visit www.owlandthistlegeneral.com.
