This Saturday will mark the debut of what promises to be one of Brooklyn’s most interesting markets. The DeKalb Market will take place in 22 re-purposed shipping containers on unused land next to the Fulton Mall. In recycling old containers and barren land, they are creating a new green space for downtown Brooklyn. In fact, some of the land is being used for an incubator farm that is being worked by different community groups who will parcel out the crops to low-income areas, according to the New York Times.
Expect to find food vendors that range from soul food to vegan, boutique vendors like our favorites Rasany and Hank & JoJo, along with artists and makers of all kinds. The space will also be used for events and performances too, making this market a potential hub day and night. The Dekalb Market is a joint venture of Urban Space and Youngwoo & Associates. Urban Space has another shipping container market in London and also runs the Columbus Circle and Union Square Holiday Markets. The Dekalb Market will be open 7 days a week year-round.
