New family practitioner takes over Dr. Carpenter’s office

August 3, 2010

People always talked about the family doctor Dr. Maggie Carpenter in hushed tones: she was amazing, she hadn’t taken new patients in years, she was so good people were willing to pay 0ut-of-pocket for her for both themselves and their children. Then, last week, one of my friends (J) told me that Dr. Carpenter had moved. My friend (J) was looking for a new pediatrician. I referred her to our Recommended Pediatrician page. And then the next day, I got an email from the doctor who is taking over Dr. Carpenter’s practice. I asked her if she could answer a few questions like her philosophy, insurance information and to  tell us about herself.

“It is a family practice.  I see adults, kids and do office-based gynecology. I take Cigna insurance but most patients use their out-of-network benefits of other insurances. I worked in a group practice near Gramercy Park in Manhattan for 10 years and decided to bring my practice to Park Slope after having my 2nd child so that I wouldn’t waste 10 hours a week commuting.  I’ve lived in Park Slope for 10 years.”

“As far as my philosophy, here are some samplings from my website:

Gifford Family Practice offers respite from the frustration of trying to navigate the current broken medical system. Our office provides a patient-centered medical home for both adults and children. The office is designed to deliver not only top-quality medical care, but also excellent customer service.  I believe that medicine is a service.  I enjoy working collaboratively with my patients to improve their quality of life.  My goal is to help guide people to health and happiness through a nurturing partnership.”
