Gateway Storytime in the Discovery Room at the American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Mondays 1015a & 1115a until June 18th 2018. Programs do not run on public school holidays so no storytime on 1/15, 2/19, 4/2, 4/30 & 5/28. Free with Museum admission. On Monday mornings during the school year, children 2 to 5 years of age are invited to join us for a story hour. Space is limited and tickets are distributed on a designated line outside the 81st Street Planetarium Entrance between 9:45 and 10:15 on a first-come, first-served basis for sessions at 10:15 and 11:15. Any remaining tickets will be distributed from the Discovery Room itself. Please note this change from years past. All visitors must also have general admission tickets to enter the building.
Stomp, Clap & Sing with Suzi Shelton at the Midwood Brooklyn Public Library
Monday January 8th 1115a-12p. Free. Award-winning singer/songwriter and local family favorite Suzi Shelton will perform, engage and inspire your kids to come on over and dance! Packed with songs that are upbeat and heart-felt, Suzi will showcase tunes from her soon-to-be-released album, as well as old favorites like “Go, FireTruck, Go,” “Cinnamon Bear,” and “The Lion Sleeps Tonight”.
Movers and Groovers Playgroup at Wild was Mama (Greenpoint)
Mondays 1230-230p. $5/drop in (cash only). Bring your lil’ one to hang out and meet other babies while you get a chance to relax, sip some free hot tea and connect with other parents and caregivers. This is an informal and unstructured playgroup for babies, 4 to 18 months, and a nice comfy space to play and chat. Lambskins and blankets for safe on-the-floor recreation. Inspirational accessible toys. Complementary water or tea. TWO changing tables and roomy restroom. Helpful, friendly staff. Numerous handy and helpful products to shop and explore.

Young artists will explore shapes, color and strengthen their fine motor skills through a variety of 2-3 dimensional art materials. By focusing on a specific color or theme each session, children will build their skills with drawing, collage, painting and small-scale sculpture. Suitable for children aged 1.5 – 4 years. Adult participation required. 45 minutes in length.
Matt de la Peña & Loren Long: Love at Books are Magic (Cobble Hill)
Tuesday January 9th 6-7p. Free. Join us for a special reading and presentation from Newbery Medal-winning author Matt de la Peña and bestselling illustrator Loren Long! Their new picture book Love is a story about the strongest bond there is and the diverse and powerful ways it connects us all. “Community Cowpoke Class” with Hopalong Andrew at Whole Foods (Williamsburg)
Tuesdays 10a. Free. Whole Foods Brooklyn in Williamsburg and New York City’s singing urban cowboy Hopalong Andrew will be holding a free cowpoke class on a weekly basis. These are urban cowboy-themed early childhood music & movement classes, primarily directed toward babies & toddlers.

Baby Fingers Infant Sign Language Demo Class at Karma Kids Yoga (West Village)
Wednesday January 10th 2-245p. Fee: $25. For ages 3m to 24m. Don’t miss this demo class with your infant! Learn American Sign Language through songs and play wth other parents and babies or toddlers. Go home each week with new vocabulary and new tunes to enhance communication between you and your child. Whether you intend to incorporate sign language in your life for the long term or simply during this pre-verbal/developing verbal time, watch in awe as your baby or toddler discovers the world of language. Creative Cats After-school Workshop for Kids at Barking Cat Studio (Windsor Terrace)
Wednesdays 4-5p until March 14th for ages 4-6y. Drop-Ins are welcome provided there is space available. Call ahead for availability (718-686-1132). Drop-In Class $35, Trial Class: $25 ($10 off for giving us a try!), New Family: Add $30 one-time Registration Fee. Class cards also available. This workshop introduces a variety of media to young artists. We’ll explore different uses of materials – mosaics, clay, sculpture, printmaking, batik and more. Grown up and Me Tots Art Class at Edamama Cute Cuts & More (Williamsburg)
Thursdays 930-1015a. $15 (includes material). We are thrilled to announce that the Stay Small Art Club is coming to Edamama. Grown up and Me Tots class is perfect for 2-4 year olds. This class introduces your toddler to a world of creativity. Your little artists will explore a wide variety of art materials such as paint, paper, collage, and crafts. Through different projects the little ones will develop skills important for school success such as fine motor, language, cognitive and the ability to listen and follow directions all while making beautiful messes and masterpieces to hang on the fridge! Classes run about 30-40 minutes and incorporate songs and stories.
Yellow Sneaker Puppet Sing-Along at Sir D’s Lounge (Park Slope)

Yellow Sneaker Puppets presents a 45 minute interactive singalong with puppets, combining original songs, oldies, and traditional children’s music. Sing, clap, dance, and shake your sillies out! Book Adventure: The Mystery of Twelve Curious Cousins at the DeKalb Brooklyn Public Library
Thursday January 11th 330-430p. Free. For ages 4-7y. The story is inspired by The Twelve Dancing Princesses by the Brother Grimm. It is an interactive twist on this classic fairytal, complete with silly puppets, memorable characters, and rhythms you wont be able to get out of your head!
Block Party at Brooklyn Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Ongoing until June 10th Tuesday-Sunday 10a-5p (open until 6p on Thursdays). Free with Museum admission. BLOCK PARTY brings together the elements of the iconic Brooklyn block party all under one roof, including a series of dimensional stoops set against a backdrop of artistic facades of residential buildings, and different ”street” and green spaces to play games, meet friends, relax, and have fun. Large-scale photographs by Brooklyn-based artist Anderson Zaca, who has long documented block parties in Brooklyn, will be featured and invoke the joy, action, and diversity of block parties celebrated annually across neighborhoods in New York City. Families will be invited to add to the photographs, and record their own images and experiences in the city among those of their neighbors.

Join CMA’s WEE teaching artists for an art-filled drop-in session when the museum is closed for general hours. Get to know Brooklyn Bridge Park with our 250 gallon aquarium filled with critters from the East River, a 10’ scale model of Brooklyn Bridge Park, crafts, a reading corner, and much more!
Holiday Train Show at The New York Botanical Garden (Bronx)
Ongoing various days/times until Monday January 15th. See website for ticket prices. Advance reservations are strongly recommended. Enchanting model trains zip through a display of 150 landmarks, each re-created with bark, leaves, and other natural materials—all under the twinkling glow of the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory. Marvel at G-scale locomotives humming along among familiar sights such as the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, and Rockefeller Center on nearly a half-mile of track. This year’s exhibition showcases Midtown Manhattan’s iconic skyscrapers and other architectural wonders, featuring new replicas of the Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, General Electric Building, and St. Bartholomew’s Church.
16th Annual Holiday Train Show in Grand Central (Midtown)
Daily 6a-8p until Sunday February 2nd. Free. The holiday season is a time of joy for kids of all ages and nothing says holiday enchantment quite like dazzled little faces watching in wonderment as model trains zip through tunnels, by subway stops, around familiar skyscrapers and through iconic cityscapes. To the delight of kids and railroad enthusiasts alike, the New York Transit Museum will continue its tradition of capturing hearts and imaginations at the 16th Annual Holiday Train Show at Grand Central Terminal starting in November and running through the New Year. The theme of the holiday train show changes every year and the event is free and open to the public.
Gingerbread Lane at New York Hall of Science (Flushing Meadows)
Monday-Friday 930a-5p & Saturday-Sunday 10a-6p until January 15, 2018. Free with Museum admission.Visitors can marvel at homemade gingerbread houses made entirely of edible gingerbread, royal icing, and candy. The houses are drafted, designed, baked, planned, built and decorated by creator Jon Lovitch over the course of an entire year. GingerBread Lane has won the Guinness World Record for 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016 for the largest gingerbread village. Lovitch’s creation will again contend for this year’s Guinness World Record. Free Skating at The Rink at Bryant Park (Midtown West)
Daily 8a-10p until March 4th. Admission free! Skate rental: $20. Rink hours are weather permitting. See the website for all the bag check information. The centerpiece of Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park, this 17,000 square foot rink features free admission ice skating, high quality rental skates, and free skating shows, special events, and activities. Many Holiday Shops are open on major holidays so start your shopping early!
