Building Your Village

Part memoir, part cultural expose, THE MOMMY GROUP is a witty, wise, and relatable narrative about the incredible bond among a group of new mothers and the power of female friendship during the pivotal first two years of parenthood. Gold balances the joys of the group’s children (and especially her own daughter, Clara) with the troubles and indignities childbearing and rearing brings (including miscarriage, postpartum mood issues, and the trials of going back to work), using their experiences as the lens through which she unflinchingly examines the reality of new motherhood in America. Gold will read from the book and speak about building community as new parents.

About the Presenter:

Elizabeth Isadora Gold’s writing about motherhood, books, music, and feminism has appeared in The New York Times, The Believer, Tin House, The Rumpus, Time Out New York, and many other publications. Her piece about her postpartum anxiety, “Meltdown in Motherland,” was featured on the New York Times Opinionator blog. She lives in Brooklyn, New York, with her husband and young daughter.

Protecting Your Family with Smart Legal & Financial Planning

Protecting your children from harm is always at the top of your mind. Preventing a toddler from falling down the stairs, making sure your child looks both ways before crossing the street, and requiring a helmet when riding a bicycle are virtually second nature.

Sometimes, however, potential harms aren’t so obvious and can result when something happens to you that directly affects your children. Having a plan in place in the event of your death or disability is a critical part of protecting your family.

Learn what to put in place to make sure your children receive the best care and protection possible if misfortune hits. We’ll cover wills, trusts, guardianship designations, life insurance, estate taxes, and more. You’ll come away with a checklist of things you can do to protect your family.

Attorney Shannon P. McNulty is the founder of a boutique law firm in New York City that caters to the legal planning needs of parents with young children.
