Opening Day at Governors Island
Monday May 1st 10a-6p and ongoing Monday-Friday 10a-6p & Saturday-Sunday 10a-7p until October 1st. Free. Governors Island is accessible by ferry every day of the week during the public season. See the website for ferry information. Governors Island is a 172-acre island in the heart of New York Harbor. Yards away from lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, it’s easily accessible by ferry and open to the public during the summer. CityParks PuppetMobile: Cinderella Samba at Brownsville Recreation Center
Monday May 1st 1030-1130a & 12n-1p. Free. For all ages. Cinderella Samba is a contemporary twist on the classic “Cinderella” fairy tale. The CityParks PuppetMobile production sets the timeless tale in the lush landscape of Brazil, where, thanks to the help of her fairy godmother, Cinderella attends Rio de Janeiro’s biggest Carnaval gala and dances the samba with Prince Paulo himself. After Cinderella is forced to flee the gala just before midnight, the prince sets out to find the mystery woman who stole his heart, in hopes of marrying her. ArchForKids presents Superslides at the DeKalb Brooklyn Public Library (Bushwick)
Monday May 1st 3-430p. Free. For ages 6-12y. Design and construct connecting inclines while you learn about the forces behind your creation. Then test your super slide with marbles.

Aleph Bet Ship Exhibit at the Jewish Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Starting Tuesday May 2nd 1-3p and ongoing Mondays-Thursdays 1-3p & Sundays 12n-4p until June 15th. Free with Museum admission. For ages 2 and older. Youngsters will go on an ‘underwater’ journey to discover the Hebrew “Aleph Bet” letters, while playing the role of captain, with hats, ship barrels, and a captain’s wheel. Throughout the trip, the young captains will get to explore and experiment with aleph bet letters by shaping letters in sand, playing a magnetic matching game with fish along the ocean wall, relaxing with a variety of aleph bet books in the reading nook, exploring the letters in a giant jigsaw puzzle, and sending the letters up in a wind tunnel.
ABC Mouse Play Time at McKinley Park Brooklyn Public Library
Tuesdays in May 3-4p. Free. Explore the abcmouse.com website with your child for free at the library. ABC Mouse includes educational games and creative activities for kids, making learning fun!
Basketball Clinics in Brooklyn Bridge Park
Starting Tuesday May 2nd and ongoing Tuesdays & Thursdays at 4p and Sundays at 12n until August 31st. Free. Location: Pier 2. Join Big and Little Skills Academy for dynamic basketball clinics for ages 8-17. Improve basic basketball skills with the Big and Little Skills Academy (BALSA) on Pier 2. Each clinic will include either yoga to enhance flexibility or flag football for agility training. The Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy reserves the right to cancel due to extreme weather conditions.

Wednesdays 9-11a. Suggested donation $5. Join parents and babies under 18 months for an informal, drop in gathering. We have coffee, a soft rug and toys for the “older” babies.
Hopalong Andrew Singalong in Underwood Park (Clinton Hill)
Wednesday May 3rd 10a weather permitting. Outdoor sing-a-long! $10/family. Hopalong Andrew’s sing-a-longs are geared towards all ages, singing the great folk songs, fireside ballads, and cowboy favorites of the silver screen. Think Roy Rogers meets Pete Seeger and Jesse Fuller – a 1-man band, with guitar, banjo, harmonica, and vintage Samsonite suitcase drum. He’ll get you to sing along, dance along, play along, and have an all-Americana good time. Check his Facebook page for a weather update if it looks like rain.
“Once upon a story…” with Flor Bromely at Bushwick Brooklyn Public Library
Wednesday May 3rd 1-2p. Free. A collection of bilingual stories for the whole family told by actress/storyteller Flor Bromley with musical instruments and audience participation. Una colección de cuentos bilingües para toda la familia con la actora/cuentista Flor Bromley. Instrumentos musicales y participación de la audiencia serán usados. Stories include: • El Zorro Enamorado de la Luna (The Fox in Love with the Moon) • El Conejo y el Coyote: El Queso (The Rabbit and the Coyote: The Cheese) • The Frog and the Challenge (La Ranita Sorda). This program will be presented in Spanish and English.

Treehouse Shakers: Olive & Pearl at BAM (Fort Greene)

Olive & Pearl tells the story of a young girl being raised by her Granny. Told through puppetry, theater, dance, and live music, this magical tale takes the youngest theatergoers on a sensory journey filled with wonder, surprise, and delight. Star Wars Day! at the St. Agnes NYPL (UWS)
Thursday May 4th 330-430p. Free. For children ages 4-12. Program is limited to 25 children, on a first come, first served basis. Join the Rebel Alliance and celebrate Star Wars Day with crafts, games, prizes, and more! The force is strong at the Library. Attend you must. Costumes are strongly encouraged.

Kids’ Discovery Stations at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Tuesdays-Fridays until June 2nd 1015a-1215p. Free with Garden admission. This is a drop-in program for schools and families with children of all ages. Get your hands dirty at kids’ discovery stations throughout the Garden. Investigate and classify plants, touch a carnivorous plant and learn how it eats, or go on a monarch and milkweed exploration in the meadow! All programs are outdoors and canceled in inclement weather.
The Princess, The Emperor and the Duck at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
Tuesday-Fridays 1030a & 12n and Saturdays & Sundays 1p until September 17th. Tickets are $8/children and $12/adults. A modern retelling of three classic Han Christian Andersen tales. Set in Africa, China and our own Central Park, The Princess, The Emperor, and The Duck retells storyteller Hans Christian Andersen’s world-famous fairy tales — The Princess and the Pea, The Emperor’s New Clothes and The Ugly Duckling — bringing the Theatre to life with new marionettes and hand painted scenery. Guided by a narrating Owl, audience members fly into each story with the original tales that teach important life lessons still relevant to children today.
Triangles, Squares and Circles, Oh My! at Private Picassos Studio (Park Slope)
Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays 1015-11a until June 22nd. For 18-48 mos. $28/drop-in (space permitting). Young artists will explore shapes, color and strengthen their fine motor skills through a variety of 2-3 dimensional art materials. By focusing on a specific color or theme each session, children will build their skills with drawing, collage, painting and small-scale sculpture.
Drop in Play at SPARK by Brooklyn Children’s Museum (DUMBO)
Wednesdays 1-5p, Thursday 1-6p (admission is free Thursdays) and Fridays-Sunday 1-5p. $15/child. (BCM Passport Members enjoy free admission). Each day at SPARK, kids can: BUILD IT! Design your own structures in our popular exhibit Brooklyn Block Lab. MAKE IT! Creativity abounds in our art activities that change each week. TOUCH IT! Get cozy in our Discovery Den featuring soft play and reading space, and a series of discovery drawers that hold treasures from our collection as well as tactile materials for little hands to explore.

You can enjoy our playspace as a DROP IN (pay as you come), with our PLAY PASSES (pre-pay visits), or have a MEMBERSHIP (unlimited visits for 1 month). Juguemos a Cantar Drop-In Play Space offers a social learning environment that includes exploration and interaction for kids 0 to 4y. A large, clean, well-equipped, airy indoor play area full of fun, music, a play kitchen, blocks, trains, doll houses, working bench, tools, puppets, soft play area, ball pit, books, craft table, & more. Open Play & Activities at Recess (DUMBO)

(Please also bring socks for kids and adults). At Recess, we understand the value of flexibility and convenience. Your kids may come in and play anytime during our scheduled play hours. Twinkle Playspace (Williamsburg)
Monday-Friday 10a–6p and Saturday-Sunday 8a-1130a. First Time Pass – $25 (only for the first time). $35 for additional visits. Memberships also available. Located in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Twinkle’s 4500 square foot play space has innovative custom-made exhibits to cater to any child’s wildest imagination. These special exhibits, designed for the under 6 crowd, are a harmonious blend of urban life and nature that encourages the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of a child in an accessible, high-quality learning environment. Twinkle hosts open play 7 days a week and children can also have an unforgettable birthday with exclusive use of our playspace! So drift away and enjoy the ride with your child in this magical journey to a world of infinite discoveries and treasured moments. Twinkle is a socks-only environment so please keep this in mind for children and adults entering the playspace. Parental supervision is required at all times, no drop-offs allowed. Open Play at Curiosity on Court (Cobble Hill)
Monday-Friday 10a-6p & Saturday-Sunday 9a-6p. Open Play drop-in: $25 per child, $45 for 2 siblings, $6- for 3 siblings. Weekday monthly passes and pass packages also available. Welcome to Curiosity on Court, a world of energy busting excitement! Our custom designed play structures and exhibits were created to raise the curiosity and fuel the imagination of kids 1–10 yrs old. Whether they’re conquering our climbing wall, taking a ride on the subway, making connections on the magnetic wall or finding their route through our multi-level play structure, there’s hours of fun for everyone. Ed Center in Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 1
Tuesdays & Thursdays 3-5p and also Saturdays and Sundays from 1–5p. Free. The Ed Center is open for free, drop-in hours three afternoons a week! Get to know Brooklyn Bridge Park with our 250 gallon aquarium filled with critters from the East River, a 10’ scale model of Brooklyn Bridge Park, crafts, a reading corner, and much more!
