Hi everyone!  Tomorrow is the first day of Spring!  The little ones can’t play outside yet but at least there is no snow this week and there are lots of fun indoor things to do in NYC.


This week take the kids and enjoy Stomp, Clap & Sing with Lucy Kalantari & the Jazz Cats at the Central Brooklyn Public Library, Stroller Strides Spring Launch Party in Prospect Park, Laurie Berkner Performance & Signing! at the Tribeca Barnes & Noble, Archaeology Mondays at The Jewish Museum, Support Group at diaperkind, Movie Monday presents “Pete’s Dragon” at Riverside New York Public Library, Mama Bears Picnic Hosts Sleep Consultant: Carolina Romanyuk at Area Yoga, Mad Science of New York: Slime Time at the Canarsie Brooklyn Public Library, Perfectly Penguin at the Yorkville New York Public Library and Little Orchestra Society at Brooklyn Children’s Museum.

Monday March 20th

Archaeology Mondays at The Jewish Museum (UES)
Monday March 20th 3-5p.  For ages 3-10y.  Free with Museum admission.  Join us for an afternoon archaeological adventure! Unique in New York City, our simulated archaeological dig highlights replicas from ancient to modern times in a hands-on experience. Collect stamps in a special passport each visit and receive a gift after your third dig adventure!

Movie Monday presents “Pete’s Dragon” at Riverside New York Public Library (UWS)
Monday March 20th 330p.  Free.  For years, Mr. Meacham has told tales of the fierce dragon deep in the woods. To his daughter, Grace, these stories are little more than tall tales, until she meets Pete. Pete is a mysterious ten-year-old with no family who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliot.  Rated PG.

Mad Science of New York: Slime Time at the Canarsie Brooklyn Public Library
Monday March 20th 4-5p.  Free.  Please note this program is limited to 15 participants.  Ooze into a gooey hour of sliming around! Create slime using the Mad Science recipe, and then enter the Slime Olympics! Take home your own concoction of Mad Science Slime!

Tuesday March 21st

Stomp, Clap & Sing with Lucy Kalantari & the Jazz Cats at the Central Brooklyn Public Library
Tuesday March 21st 11a-12n.  Free.  Location: Dweck Center.  (rescheduled from last week) Multi-award winning children’s artist, Lucy Kalantari, brings delightful jazz age inspired music everyone can enjoy! Kids and families will love the interactive jazz-scat-along play, while singing about the simple joys and delights of life.

Support Group at diaperkind (Gowanus)
Tuesdays March 21st, 28th, April 4th & 25th 11a-1p.  $10 per person. No charge for current diaperkind service families. Babies are always free.  Please register in advance by choosing a date to the right. No drop-ins, please. You spend your pregnancy educating yourself and preparing for your new addition. But what happens when the baby is born and suddently everything you thought you knew goes out the window? If you find yourself having a harder of a time with your cloth diapers than you thought you would- don’t stress! We are here to help. Come to one of our support groups for hands on assistance. We also open our support groups to childcare providers. We’re happy to help you show your baby’s new caregiver the ropes!

Laurie Berkner Performance & Signing! at the Barnes & Noble (Tribeca)
Tuesday March 21st 4-530p.  Free.  Laurie Berkner’s beloved children’s song, “We Are the Dinosaurs” is now available as a picture book! Whaddya think of that?!  Join us for a performance and signing with everyone’s favorite kidie rockstar.

Stroller Strides Spring Launch Party in Prospect Park
Wednesday March 22nd 945-11a.  Free.  Join us for a free mom and baby workout as Stroller Strides launches its SEVENTH season in Brooklyn. Stroller Strides is not just a walk in the park, come join us and get a great workout, goody bags and giveaways. Pre-registration required.  Register here.  Meet up in front of the statue at the 9th St. entrance to Prospect Park.

Mama Bears Picnic Hosts Sleep Consultant: Carolina Romanyuk at Area Yoga (Brooklyn Heights)
Wednesday March 22nd 230-430p. Price is the same as a single class ($18) or one class on your class card.  Register here.  Dearest Mama Bears, Mama Bears Picnic will be hosting Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant: Carolina Romanyuk, who will be sharing her presentation: “How to Raise a Happy and Healthy Sleeper”, and also be available to answer questions.  Note: Mama Bears Picnic-A Social and Well-Being Gala meet each Wednesday at Area Yoga.  Arrive any time after 2pm and stay as late as 5pm. Open House format. Weekly presentations in a diversity of educational, fun and essential subjects of interest to the maternal community! Newbies most welcome! Bring Baby Bear, your lunch, and afternoon essentials.

Simple Machines at the Hudson Park New York Public Library (West Village)
Wednesday March 22nd 4p.  Free.  Recommended for children ages 5 and older.  Beginning with the wheel and axle and ending with a Rube Goldberg mechanism, students explore a simple machine in each class and how the work it does can be utilized to perform everyday tasks.  Presented by the Children’s Museum of Manhattan.

Thursday March 23rd

Open Play at Monkey Do! Yoga (Gowanus)
Thursday 12n-5p in March and then 12n-330p until June 22nd. Drop in $10 (per caregiver/child pair) additional Sibling $6 and class packs also available.  Recommended for ages 0-6 years.  Move and play!  Make friends in space that’s perfect for little ones and toddlers to explore and climb.  This free play time is designed to get parents, caregivers and the kids out of the house, connecting with each other and having fun!  They can enjoy moving around in our kid-friendly environment, and weather permitting, the backyard too.

Little Orchestra Society at Brooklyn Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Thursday March 23rd 4-445p.  Free with Museum admission.  For ages 2-8y.  Musical World Tour: Ghana.  Join Little Orchestra Society (LOS) for a trip around the world that explores music, touchable instruments, and music making at each stop. Explore rhythms from Ghana and create a notation system to perform as an African drumming ensemble. Explore the influence of West African music in Music for Pieces of Wood by Steve Reich and use drumsticks to create an original, layered piece of music.

Perfectly Penguin at the Yorkville New York Public Library (UES)
March 23rd 4-5p.  Free.  Recommended for children ages 4 and older.  Why would a wild polar bear never eat a penguin? Find out the answer and many other fascinating facts about penguins and their amazing adaptations in our interactive show, “A Penguin State of Mind.” Kids also learn about the importance of conservation as it relates to a polar habitat thousands of miles away.  Presented by the Central Park Zoo Wildlife Theatre.

Ongoing Events

ARTech: Adventures In Art + Techchnology (Meatpacking District)
Wednesdays-Thursdays 3-7p and Saturdays-Sundays 10a-5p until April 29th.  Free and open to the public.  RSVP is required for a timed entry slot. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time.  The Meatpacking Business Improvement District (BID) is proud to invite you to experience ARTech: Adventures in Art + Technology!  ARTech is a two-month long pop-up activity center comprised of STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) experiential workshops, installations, and interactive moments for school age children + their accompanying adults.   Note: Each attendee is allowed 1 hour within the space to engage with the various stations. A 15 minute warning announcement will be announced before leaving the space.   See the website for all the details of the activities.

Playgroup at Bija Kids (Clinton Hill)
Monday-Thursday until May 4th 330-5p.  For ages 1-3y.  *No playgroup April 6th, April 10-13th.  Spots are available on a first come, first served basis. Playgroup has a capacity of 15 families. $15/drop in (space permitting).  NEWLY REENVISIONED Bija Playgroup is an introduction to Bija curriculum for our youngest participants – ages 1-3 years. Each session includes guided free play in our beautiful classroom space with puzzles, blocks, dough, dramatic play and art materials as well as a teacher led activity. Our approach is interactive and joyful and we pride ourselves on creating an environment conducive to learning in fun and engaging ways. Sign up for one or more days a week or drop in (space permitted). Parent or caregiver participation required. Playgroup is a perfect introduction to our drop off programs, preschool and camp.  Mondays: Movement and Music, Tuesdays: Visual Art, Wednesdays: Interactive Storytelling and Thursdays: Sensory Play.

The Princess, The Emperor and the Duck at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
Tuesday-Fridays 1030a & 12n and Saturdays & Sundays 1p until September 17th.  Tickets are $8/children and $12/adults.  A modern retelling of three classic Han Christian Andersen tales.  Set in Africa, China and our own Central Park, The Princess, The Emperor, and The Duck retells storyteller Hans Christian Andersen’s world-famous fairy tales — The Princess and the Pea, The Emperor’s New Clothes and The Ugly Duckling — bringing the Theatre to life with new marionettes and hand painted scenery. Guided by a narrating Owl, audience members fly into each story with the original tales that teach important life lessons still relevant to children today.

Drop in Play at SPARK by Brooklyn Children’s Museum (DUMBO)
Wednesdays 1-5p, Thursday 1-6p (admission is free Thursdays) and Fridays-Sunday 1-5p.  $15/child. (BCM Passport Members enjoy free admission).  Each day at SPARK, kids can: BUILD IT! Design your own structures in our popular exhibit Brooklyn Block Lab.  MAKE IT! Creativity abounds in our art activities that change each week.  TOUCH IT! Get cozy in our Discovery Den featuring soft play and reading space, and a series of discovery drawers that hold treasures from our collection as well as tactile materials for little hands to explore.

Open Play at NURTURE{BKLYN} (Windsor Terrace)
Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays 930-1130a & Tuesdays & Thursdays 4-530p.  $10/drop in.  Class packs also available.  Unstructured indoor open play and socializing for babies & toddlers in a bright and cozy space that has all the comforts of home.  We offer several play areas for children as well as a cozy space for you to relax and have a cup of tea or coffee while your child explores and socializes.  Child-led play, parent/caregiver supervised.

Play Space Winter Schedule at Juguemos a Cantar (South Slope)
M-F 9a-12n and 330-530p until March 30th.  $12 per visit / Sibling $3 per visit.  There is no registration required for Drop-In Sessions. You can enjoy our playspace as a DROP IN (pay as you come), with our PLAY PASSES (pre-pay visits), or have a MEMBERSHIP (unlimited visits for 1 month).  Juguemos a Cantar Drop-In Play Space offers a social learning environment that includes exploration and interaction for kids 0 to 4y. A large, clean, well-equipped, airy indoor play area full of fun, music, a play kitchen, blocks, trains, doll houses, working bench, tools, puppets, soft play area, ball pit, books, craft table, & more.  Monday: Singalong with Damian & his drums (Spanish & English) 1015a, Tuesday: Singalong with Ivan & his drums 1015a, Wednesday: Singalong with Ale (Spanish/English) 1015a, Thursday: Singalong with Turcker 1015a and Friday: Storytime (Spanish/English) 1030a.

Tots Drop in Center at Congregation Beth Elohim (Park Slope)
Tuesdays-Fridays 915a-12p until April 7th, 2017.  Please note: the drop in center will be closed on Tuesday, February 14, 2017.  Fees: Temple Member $10/child, $15 with additional sibling.  Non-member $12/child, $18 with additional sibling.  Visit Passes also available for purchase.  See website for more information.  For ages birth through 24 months.  All children are accompanied by their adult.  Parents, caregivers, and children come together to discover, learn and have fun!  The Drop-In Center is held in our Social Hall, which becomes a large indoor play space with age-appropriate toys and activities.  The program is coordinated by an early childhood facilitator.

Open Play & Activities at Recess (DUMBO)
Monday-Thursday 9a-530p, Friday 9a-5p and Saturday-Sundays 9a–1130a*.  Drop in $30 first child, $20 per additional child.  Memberships/play packs also available for purchase.  (Please also bring socks for kids and adults).  At Recess, we understand the value of flexibility and convenience. Your kids may come in and play anytime during our scheduled play hours. We’re ready when you are!  Recess offers free weekly classes for members and drop-ins!  Recess Story Time (0 – 3 yrs), Monday at 11a & Tuesday at 3p. Recess Craft (6 mos – 3 yrs),Thursdays at 230p.   *Weekend afternoons are reserved for birthday parties.

Twinkle Playspace (Williamsburg)
Monday-Friday 10a–6p and Saturday-Sunday 8a-1130a.  First Time Pass – $25 (only for the first time).  $35 for additional visits.  Memberships also available.  Located in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Twinkle’s 4500 square foot play space has innovative custom-made exhibits to cater to any child’s wildest imagination. These special exhibits, designed for the under 6 crowd, are a harmonious blend of urban life and nature that encourages the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of a child in an accessible, high-quality learning environment. Twinkle hosts open play 7 days a week and children can also have an unforgettable birthday with exclusive use of our playspace! So drift away and enjoy the ride with your child in this magical journey to a world of infinite discoveries and treasured moments.  Twinkle is a socks-only environment so please keep this in mind for children and adults entering the playspace. Parental supervision is required at all times, no drop-offs allowed. Parking is available under the BQE (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) which is only a block away from us as well as street parking.

Toddler Open Play at Prospect Gymnastics (Flatbush/Ditmas Park)
Mondays & Wednesdays 10a-12n, Tuesdays 1-3p, Thursdays 10a-12n & Sundays 3-5p.  Note: week of 2/20-2/26 there is only Open Play on Sunday the 26th.  $15/single drop in, $100 10 class pass.  Open playtime for toddlers 4 and under. Parental supervision required.

Open Play at Curiosity on Court (Cobble Hill)
Monday-Friday 10a-6p & Saturday-Sunday 9a-6p.  Open Play drop-in: $25 per child, $45 for 2 siblings, $6- for 3 siblings.  Weekday monthly passes and pass packages also available.  Welcome to Curiosity on Court, a world of energy busting excitement! Our custom designed play structures and exhibits were created to raise the curiosity and fuel the imagination of kids 1–10 yrs old. Whether they’re conquering our climbing wall, taking a ride on the subway, making connections on the magnetic wall or finding their route through our multi-level play structure, there’s hours of fun for everyone.  Weekend Open Play hours are extended if we don’t have birthday party/event. Family Fun at Ms. J’s Gymnastics & Dance (Williamsburg)
Mondays-Wednesdays & Fridays 9a-330p, Thursdays 10a-330p, Saturdays 1-2p* and Sundays 9a-11a*.  Just $10 per visit.** Ms J’s Gym is for the whole neighborhood, especially during inclement weather!  Come practice tumbling, make a play date, or simply run around! Just $10 per visit.** Family Fun is parent or guardian supervised. Hang around with your child(ren) and have a blast! *Please note, we encourage that you visit our Facebook page and calendar tab for Family Fun closures.  Family Fun is closed during any parties & sometimes when weather is nice.  **All children must be members to participate in Family Fun Hours. Ed Center in Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 1
Tuesdays & Thursdays 3-5p and also Saturdays and Sundays from 1–5p.  Free.  The Ed Center is open for free, drop-in hours three afternoons a week! Get to know Brooklyn Bridge Park with our 250 gallon aquarium filled with critters from the East River, a 10’ scale model of Brooklyn Bridge Park, crafts, a reading corner, and much more!
