Hi everyone!  I hope everyone had a great weekend and looking forward to the Super Bowl this evening. Puxatawney Phil may have indicated that we’re in for six more weeks of winter, but we have you covered with some awesome family friendly fun to get you through the week.

Babywearing International Meet Up at NURTURE{BKLYN} (Windsor Terrace)
Monday February 6th 930-11a.  This event is free.  Please arrive early to secure your space. (There is no online registration).  BWI of NYC is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to sharing the love of babywearing and helping caregivers to carry their babies and children safely, comfortably, and confidently. Participants are invited to bring their own kids, carriers, and questions, and get assistance with any issues or just check out each others’ stashes.

Stomp, Clap & Sing with Jon Samson at the Midwood Brooklyn Public Library
Monday February 6th 1115a-12n.  Free.  Join award winning artist and music therapist, Jon Samson, as he shares songs off his latest CD, “A New Kids Album”. You and your child will be stomping, clapping, tapping, snapping, singing and laughing!

Community Dance Class at BRIC House Ballroom (Fort Greene)
Monday February 6th 630-8p.  Free.  Enter on Rockwell Place.  All ages and skill levels are welcome to join us for a series of Community Dance Classes taught by Ronald K. Brown and members of his company, Evidence, A Dance Company.  Evidence, A Dance Company blends traditional African dance with contemporary choreography and spoken word providing a unique view of human struggles, tragedies, and triumphs. These Community Classes, accessible for all ages and skill levels, are rooted in the Company’s fusion aesthetic and are the perfect alternative to another boring day at the gym. Tuesday February 7th

The Princess, The Emperor and the Duck at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
Starting Tuesday February 7th 1030a & 12n and ongoing until Sunday September 17th.  Performances are Tuesday-Fridays 1030a & 12n and Saturdays & Sundays 1p.  Tickets are $8/children and $12/adults.  A modern retelling of three classic Han Christian Andersen tales.  Set in Africa, China and our own Central Park, The Princess, The Emperor, and The Duck retells storyteller Hans Christian Andersen’s world-famous fairy tales — The Princess and the Pea, The Emperor’s New Clothes and The Ugly Duckling — bringing the Theatre to life with new marionettes and hand painted scenery. Guided by a narrating Owl, audience members fly into each story with the original tales that teach important life lessons still relevant to children today.

Bjorn Skaarup’s Hippo Ballerina Unveiling and Instameet in Dante Park (UWS)
Tuesday February 7th 12n-330p.  Free.  Location: North end of Dante Park.  Please join us to celebrate the unveiling of Danish artist Bjorn Skaarup’s monumental bronze sculpture, Hippo Ballerina. The copper tutu-clad bronze sculpture stands over 15-foot tall and is Skaarup’s first US public art installation. Inspired by Degas’ Little Dancer Aged Fourteen and the dancing hippos of Walt Disney’s Fantasia, Hippo Ballerina vividly illustrates Skaarup’s ability to reinterpret subjects and themes found in ancient myths, art history, modern animation, and contemporary popular culture in playful ways that are accessible to visitors at any age! Come join in the fun on Feb. 7!  The sculpture will be on view from February 7, 2017 through July 31, 2017.

Asante’s African Safari: Storytelling, Music and Dance at Kings Bay Brooklyn Public Library
Tuesday February 7th 4-5p.  Free.  Join Asante for his unique blend of Storytelling, African/Caribbean Dance, and Drum/Percussion Music.  Feel the excitement as you participate in a magical, adventurous journey through words, music and dance .

Understanding the 1 in 5: Making Sense of Your Child’s Learning and Attention Issues at Central Brooklyn Public Library
Wednesday February 8th 10a-12n.  Free.  For adults.  Location: Info Commons Lab.  Learn more about your child with learning and attention issues and specific learning disabilities.  Understand why they behave the way they do and how to get the support they need to succeed.  Get your questions answered by experts.  Common Learning and Attention Issues Are:  Trouble with Focus and Hyperactivity (ADHD), Reading (Dyslexia), Math (Dyscalculia), Writing (Dysgraphia) and with Motor Skills (Dyspraxia).

The History Mystery at Tada! Youth Theater (Chelsea/Midtown West)
Wednesday February 8th 10a & 12n.  Also ongoing at various times until February 20th.  See website for schedule.  Tickets: $15/child & $25/adult.  Travel back in time to meet famous and “not so famous” kids who changed the world such as Ben Franklin, Eleanor Roosevelt, the Wright brothers, Suffragettes, and Martin Luther King Jr.

Meet the Author Heather Swain at the Clinton Hill Brooklyn Public Library
Wednesday February 8th 330-430p.  Free.  We humans smooch with our lips, but how do giraffes, whales, hummingbirds, tree frogs, and other creatures kiss? Brooklyn-based children’s book author Heather Swain answers these questions in her new book ALL KINDS OF KISSES.  After story time, Swain will lead children (and the grown-ups who love them) through crafting their own kissing piranha toy to take home.

Thursday February 9th

The DAD BEATS at LARK (Flatbush/Prospect Park South)
Thursdays 11a.  $5 suggested donation.The Dad Beats are a power trio wrapped in a playdate with a hootenany garnish! Made up of three real live Brooklyn dads, the Dad Beats traverse surf, rock and country grooves to deliver playful reimaginings of your childhood favorites. Bring your baby/toddler/kid and dance along with the Beats!

Kids Create: Valentine’s Crafts! at the Brooklyn Heights Public Library
Thursday February 9th 330-430p.  Free.  Join us for a fun afternoon of arts and crafts! We will be making Valentine’s Day inspired projects. Ages 5+

Tween Yoga: 9–12 year olds at Bend & Bloom Yoga (Park Slope)
Thursdays 4-5p (Adult Hour Flow class runs at the same time). $18 for a drop-in, $160 for a 10 class pack.  Mat rentals are included for all Kids Classes.  This class continues Bend & Bloom’s signature fun-filled kids yoga while introducing spirited, flowing sequences, increasingly challenging balancing poses, and imaginative relaxation tools to nurture the growing independence of 9-12 year olds. Partner poses and team-building yoga games encourage healthy socialization and body image. Your child will develop strength and self-confidence both on and off the yoga mat!

Jungle Discovery at the Jewish Children’s Museum (Crown Heights)
Ongoing until Thursday February 23rd.  Hours are Sunday-Thursday 1-3p.  Free with Museum admission.  Recommended for children 3+.  Did you know a Giraffe can grow up to 18 feet tall? Or that Lions are always in a Pride? Step into our new temporary exhibit and discover fascinating lessons we can learn from the animals in the Jungle!

Play Space Winter Schedule at Juguemos a Cantar (South Slope)
M-F 9a-12n and 330-530p until March 30th.  $12 per visit / Sibling $3 per visit.  There is no registration required for Drop-In Sessions. You can enjoy our playspace as a DROP IN (pay as you come), with our PLAY PASSES (pre-pay visits), or have a MEMBERSHIP (unlimited visits for 1 month).  Juguemos a Cantar Drop-In Play Space offers a social learning environment that includes exploration and interaction for kids 0 to 4y. A large, clean, well-equipped, airy indoor play area full of fun, music, a play kitchen, blocks, trains, doll houses, working bench, tools, puppets, soft play area, ball pit, books, craft table, & more.  Monday: Singalong with Damian & his drums (Spanish & English) 1015a, Tuesday: Singalong with Ivan & his drums 1015a, Wednesday: Singalong with Ale (Spanish/English) 1015a, Thursday: Singalong with Turcker 1015a and Friday: Storytime (Spanish/English) 1030a.

Tots Drop in Center at Congregation Beth Elohim (Park Slope)
Tuesdays-Fridays 915a-12p until April 10th, 2015.  Fees: Temple Member $10/child, $15 with additional sibling.  Non-member $12/child, $18 with additional sibling.  Visit Passes also available for purchase.  See website for more information.  For ages birth through 24 months.  All children are accompanied by their adult.  Parents, caregivers, and children come together to discover, learn and have fun!  The Drop-In Center is held in our Social Hall, which becomes a large indoor play space with age-appropriate toys and activities.  The program is coordinated by an early childhood facilitator.

Playgroup at Bija Kids (Clinton Hill)
Monday-Thursday until March 2nd 330-p.  For ages 1-3y.  Spots are available on a first come, first served basis. Playgroup has a capacity of 15 families. $15/drop in (space permitting) or $125/10 visits.  NEWLY REENVISIONED Bija Playgroup is an introduction to Bija curriculum for our youngest participants – ages 1-3 years. Each session includes guided free play in our beautiful classroom space with puzzles, blocks, dough, dramatic play and art materials as well as a teacher led activity. Our approach is interactive and joyful and we pride ourselves on creating an environment conducive to learning in fun and engaging ways. Sign up for one or more days a week or drop in (space permitted). Parent or caregiver participation required. Playgroup is a perfect introduction to our drop off programs, preschool and camp.  Mondays: Movement and Music, Tuesdays: Visual Art, Wednesdays: Interactive Storytelling and Thursdays: Sensory Play.

Open Play & Activities at Recess (DUMBO)
Monday-Thursday 9a-530p, Friday 9a-5p and Saturday-Sundays 9a–1130a*.  Drop in $30 first child, $20 per additional child.  Memberships/play packs also available for purchase.  (Please also bring socks for kids and adults).  At Recess, we understand the value of flexibility and convenience. Your kids may come in and play anytime during our scheduled play hours. We’re ready when you are!  Recess offers free weekly classes for members and drop-ins!  Recess Story Time (0 – 3 yrs), Monday at 11a & Tuesday at 3p. Recess Craft (6 mos – 3 yrs),Thursdays at 230p.   *Weekend afternoons are reserved for birthday parties.

Twinkle Playspace (Williamsburg)
Monday-Friday 10a–6p and Saturday-Sunday 8a-1130a.  First Time Pass – $25 (only for the first time).  $35 for additional visits.  Memberships also available.  Located in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Twinkle’s 4500 square foot play space has innovative custom-made exhibits to cater to any child’s wildest imagination. These special exhibits, designed for the under 6 crowd, are a harmonious blend of urban life and nature that encourages the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of a child in an accessible, high-quality learning environment. Twinkle hosts open play 7 days a week and children can also have an unforgettable birthday with exclusive use of our playspace! So drift away and enjoy the ride with your child in this magical journey to a world of infinite discoveries and treasured moments.  Twinkle is a socks-only environment so please keep this in mind for children and adults entering the playspace. Parental supervision is required at all times, no drop-offs allowed. Parking is available under the BQE (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) which is only a block away from us as well as street parking.

Toddler Open Play at Prospect Gymnastics (Flatbush/Ditmas Park)
Mondays & Wednesdays 10a-12n, Tuesdays 1-3p, Thursdays 10a-12n & Sundays 3-5p.  Note: week of 2/20-2/26 there is only Open Play on Sunday the 26th.  $15/single drop in, $100 10 class pass.  Open playtime for toddlers 4 and under. Parental supervision required.

Open Play at Curiosity on Court (Cobble Hill)
Monday-Friday 10a-6p & Saturday-Sunday 9a-6p.  Open Play drop-in: $25 per child, $45 for 2 siblings, $6- for 3 siblings.  Weekday monthly passes and pass packages also available.  Welcome to Curiosity on Court, a world of energy busting excitement! Our custom designed play structures and exhibits were created to raise the curiosity and fuel the imagination of kids 1–10 yrs old. Whether they’re conquering our climbing wall, taking a ride on the subway, making connections on the magnetic wall or finding their route through our multi-level play structure, there’s hours of fun for everyone.  Weekend Open Play hours are extended if we don’t have birthday party/event. Family Fun at Ms. J’s Gymnastics & Dance (Williamsburg)
Mondays-Wednesdays & Fridays 9a-330p, Thursdays 10a-330p, Saturdays 1-2p* and Sundays 9a-11a*.  Just $10 per visit.** Ms J’s Gym is for the whole neighborhood, especially during inclement weather!  Come practice tumbling, make a play date, or simply run around! Just $10 per visit.** Family Fun is parent or guardian supervised. Hang around with your child(ren) and have a blast! *Please note, we encourage that you visit our Facebook page and calendar tab for Family Fun closures.  Family Fun is closed during any parties & sometimes when weather is nice.  **All children must be members to participate in Family Fun Hours. 15th Annual Holiday Train Show in Grand Central (Midtown)
Ongoing until Sunday February 26th, 2017.  Hours: Monday–Friday 8a-8p; Saturday–Sunday 10a-6p.  Free.  Come celebrate the holiday season with us! This year’s Holiday Train Show display will feature a 34-foot-long “O gauge” model train layout with Lionel’s model Metro-North, New York Central, and vintage subway trains running on eight separate loops of track, against a backdrop featuring graphics celebrating the Museum’s 40th anniversary by artist Julia Rothman. Vintage “O gauge” and “N gauge” model trains and a selection of Transit Museum Collection ½” scale trolley models made by Dr. George Rahilly will also be on view.  Transit gifts are available online at www.nytransitmuseumstore.com.

Ed Center in Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 1
Tuesdays & Thursdays 3-5p and also Saturdays and Sundays from 1–5p.  Free.  The Ed Center is open for free, drop-in hours three afternoons a week! Get to know Brooklyn Bridge Park with our 250 gallon aquarium filled with critters from the East River, a 10’ scale model of Brooklyn Bridge Park, crafts, a reading corner, and much more!
