Volunteering is one of the most rewarding things you can do, especially during the holiday season. Throughout the five boroughs, approximately 1.4 million people rely on soup kitchens and food pantries. Below is a list of organizations who can use help during the holidays and throughout the year.
Food Bank for New York City (all areas)

God’s Love We Deliver (all areas)
God’s Love We Deliver needs people with vehicles to help make deliveries in Brooklyn. God’s Love cooks and delivers meals for clients who are home bound.
Neighbors Together Soup Kitchen (Bed-Stuy)
Located at 2094 Fulton Street, Neighbors Together Soup Kitchen needs volunteers to help prepare and serve lunches and dinners. Check their website or contact them at 718-498-7256.
Park Slope Christian Help (Park Slope)
CHIPS is a soup kitchen, food pantry, clothing donation location, and shelter for women with infants. Please check their website or call them at 718-237-2962 for more information.
St. John’s Bread and Life’s Soup Kitchen (Bed-Stuy)
They need volunteers for packing up toys and food for 1,200 families for Christmas. For the Christmas packing, the children must be ages 12 years and up because they will have around 400 volunteers. They do need help with donations too (food, hygiene products, toys and clothing). To volunteer, check their site or call them at 718-574-0058.
Greenpoint Reformed Church (Greenpoint)
This church has a wonderful hunger program that serves many in the area. Volunteers are needed on Wednesdays from 3pm-7pm and on Thursdays from 7:30am-11:30am. They could also alway use your donations. This is the season of giving, after all. Phone: 718-383-5941
Rescuing food for New York’s hungry. There are many ways volunteers can help City Harvest ensure that good food does not go to waste in our city. Here is the page to help you to become a volunteer.
