Halloween Fun All Week! Events for Oct 28th-31st in NYC!

Hope everyone had a super fun weekend.  The weather was great and think it will be good this week too!

So if you want to have some Halloween fun on the days leading up to Halloween this week you can check out Intrepid’s Halloween on the Hudson, Halloween Playspace at BAX, Spooky Yoga Story Time and After Ghoul Special at Ripley’s Believe It or Not.  Also the Brooklyn Public Library has a list of Halloween events at a variety of branches this week.

Thursday is a packed day with trick or treating with the kids, parades like To BOO or Not To BOO and stores having costume parties.  We also have  BAMboo! Halloween Block Party, the 2013 Halloween 313 show and the 18th Annual Halloween Celebration at American Museum of Natural History going on!

Some non Halloween activities this week is the Reading Week at Kings Bay Y at North Williamsburg the start of the 21st Annual Canstruction competition and the last day of Open Hours at Hallett Nature Sanctuary in Central Park!

Calling all monsters, ghosts and goblins! Join us as we celebrate a spooky start to the Playspace season!  The Early Childhood Program at BAX creates opportunities for our youngest community members to explore their world through movement, group social experiences, and creative choice-making. Playspace provides an open, stimulating environment where young children and their grown-ups engage in fun and creative free play.  We’re kicking off this season with all of the usual Playspace fun – from wiggly tunnels to colorful blocks – plus singing, dancing, and a special treat (but no tricks – we promise). All with a little Halloween twist!  Kids (and adults!) are encouraged to come in costume.

Storytime Yoga at Pipsqueak Children’s Shoppe (Bedford Stuyvesant)
Mondays 1030-11a.  Free.
Taught by Djuna Passman, an experience yoga teacher and children’s yoga teacher, Storytime Yoga is a fun way to introduce your child to the basic movements of yoga.  As Djuna reads or tells the children a story she asks them to mimic the movements and sounds of the animals within the story.
Classes are approximately 30 minutes long.  Classes are FREE!  No need to register, just show up!

After Ghoul Special at Ripley’s Believe It or Not (Times Square)
Monday, October 28 through Friday, November 1st 4pm to 7pm,
Kids dressed in Halloween costume will receive free entrance to the Odditorium with the purchase of a full-priced adult ticket ($29.95). Ripley’s staff will be dressed to impress in fun and haunting Halloween costumes, handing out candy to trick-or-treaters at several surprise locations throughout the museum. Those who dare can also participate in a heart-racing Halloween themed scavenger hunt also available from 4pm-7pm

Tuesday October 29th

Monster Mash at Brooklyn Public Library Cortelyou Branch
Tuesday October 29th 230-330p for 3-4y, 330-430p for 5-6y and 430-530p for 7-9y.
Under Alden’s animated direction, children ages 3-9 will get into the Addams Family groove and go home with impressive party tricks for Halloween treating. All dance programs incorporate infectious music and fanciful expressions of rhythm, movement quality and space–and the mini performance at the end of this Halloween party will be a real scream!

Hopalong Andrew Sing Along at Moxie Spot (Cobble Hill)
Tuesdays at 11a. For Singalongs $5.00/child (all ages no deductions for food purchases).  Come let your heart sing!  Floor play fee everyday:  $2.50/child 2nd $5 max per family $2.50 waived for every $15 spent in food and beverage.

Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure at The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
Tuesday 10/29 1030a & 12n and various days & times until Saturday November 2nd (check website).  Tickets: $7 children under 12y & $10 for 13y and up.  Hansel and Gretel’s Halloween Adventure picks up where the original Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre production leaves off; with the pair’s pet swan Samantha flying the children back to their humble home after their wild escapade in the forest.

Safely back at home during the Halloween season; Hansel and Gretel experience the most vivid dreams where Central Park and the Belvedere Castle serve as the backdrop for a magical explosion of music, dance and exciting encounters with a host of lovable characters. The brother and sister team once again embark on an adventure where beautiful mermaids, adorable monsters, swashbuckling pirates, charming vampires and a fabulous witch all intertwine for one unforgettable Halloween night in New York City.

Free Spooky Yoga StoryTime! at Karma Kids Yoga (West Village)
Wednesday, October 30th at 11:30am.  Free to all!
Don’t miss our 10th annual Halloween-themed StoryTime class! In celebration of Halloween, we’ll emphasize Wolf, Bat, Spider, Goblin, Pumpkin, Witch, Wizard, Ghost, Cat and other fun holiday poses. Be sure to wear your costume and expect some Halloween suprises, including…GLOW-IN-THE-DARK!

Intrepid’s Halloween on the Hudson (Midtown West)
Wednesday October 30th 3-8p.  $24 for adults, $19 for youth 7-17 years and $12 for kids 3-6y
Join the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum for a frighteningly-fun day for families!! On October 30, the Museum will extend its hours and stay open until 8:00pm, so visitors can make the most of trick-or-treating, face painting, a Monster Mash Dance Party, Halloween-themed arts and crafts, and more! Grab the kids and stuff the sarcophagi full of candy at BAM’s 12th annual Halloween block party! Sphinxes, snakes, and Cleopatras gather for an afternoon of ancient Egypt themed games, candy giveaways, and costume contests, and activities.  See the website for more details on the event.

20,000 Screams Under The Sea: A Steampunk Adventure at Halloween 313 (Clinton Hill)

Every year on October 31st, crowds gather in the street in front of 313 Clinton Avenue, home of Janna Kennedy (aka “The Halloween Lady”), for the legendary theatrical extravaganza known as Halloween 313. Now in its 19th year, this free, Broadway-quality show for all ages runs continuous performances throughout the evening, drawing an attendance of more than 5,000 neighbors, visitors, and trick-or-treaters (the show coincides with the Clinton Hill Halloween Walk).  Performances run approximately every 30 minutes and take place outside the front of 313 Clinton Ave.

To BOO or Not To BOO — Park Slope Civic Council’s Annual Halloween Parade
October 31, 2013 630pm-930pm.  Free.
Join us for this fantastic neighborhood event with this year’s literary theme – To Boo or Not to Boo!
Come as your favorite fictional personae, or gather a company of Shakespearean characters
to march with you.   The parade kicks off from 14th Street and 7th Avenue, turns left on 3rd Street
and ends at the Old Stone House & Washington Park.

CANSTRUCTION: 21ST ANNUAL NYC COMPETITION at Brookfield Place (Battery Park)
Thursday October 31 –  Wednesday November 13, 2013
10am – 6pm (Nov. 13 close at 5pm)
Canstruction® is an extraordinary annual design competition and the most unique food charity in the world. Teams of architects, engineers, contractors, and the students they mentor will compete to build large-scale structures made entirely out of unopened cans of food. The whimsical, wacky, and truly unique sculptures are then on view to the public until they are dismantled and donated to City Harvest for distribution to those in need. Admission is free, but visitors are asked to bring a can of high quality food to the exhibition’s collection station in an attempt to surpass the record 91,000 pounds of food donated following the 20th Annual Competition. The Haunted Pumpkin Garden at The New York Botanical Garden (Bronx)
Now until October 31st The Garden is open year-round, Tuesday – Sunday, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The Haunted Pumpkin Garden is Back and Spookier than Ever!

Experience the thrills and chills of the season with a garden full of intricately carved pumpkin sculptures, bugs, bats, parades, and more. New this year, the Haunted Pumpkin Garden features creepy creature encounters every weekend and the largest Spooky Nighttime Adventures trail ever! On October 19–20, watch master carver Ray Villafane of Food Network fame transform humongous pumpkins into unearthly creatures. It’s so much fun, it’s scary!

Pumpkin sculptures of spooky scarecrows, frightening spiders, sneaky snakes, and more await discovery at every turn in the Everett Children’s Adventure Garden. The display includes more than 500 intricately carved pumpkins that are sure to capture your youngster’s imagination. Every day kids can play inside a “gourd-geous” Pumpkin House, put on a scary show at the Pumpkin Puppet Theater, look for wiggly worms under a rotting log, and join a Halloween Parade, while every weekend offers even more treats.

Admission to the NYBG varies on the day of the week so see website for ticket prices.

Fall Fun at Brooklyn Crab! (Red Hook)
Everyday – 11am until Sundown.  Admission to pumpkin “patch”/golf course: FREE Golf $4/$5. Pumpkins – prices vary.
Our beautiful backyard is festooned with pumpkins and even some ghouls. Kids can roam the course, play some holes, and even pick a pumpkin from our “patch” (any of the pumpkins on BKC premise, price based on size). We will give out a free crab-carving stencil with all pumpkin purchases.

On Thursday Oct, 31st, Halloween, we will have three candy stations, one on each of our floors so that kids can come trick or treat at the Shack.

Brick-or-Treat at LEGOLAND® Discovery Center, Westchester

Open Hours at Hallett Nature Sanctuary in Central Park
Tuesdays in October 1-3p.  Free.
Normally closed to visitors except on guided tours, come meander at your own pace along the rustic trail and see how the Conservancy is turning this once-weed-filled promontory into a native woodland garden for birds and other wildlife. The wood chipped trail is uneven; please wear appropriate
shoes. Please, no groups, dogs, bikes or strollers; capacity is limited. Guided tours also offered.  (Inside the Park from East 60th to 62nd Street, south of Wollman Rink)

Thursdays 3p-5p for all ages.
Come join us for our FREE afternoon hours at the Museum, EVERY Thursday of the month! Free hours start at 3:00pm, and the Museum stays open until 5:00pm for all your fun exploring!

Free Storytime at the Scholastic Store (SOHO)

Tuesdays, Wednesday & Thursdays at 11a for all ages.  Join The Scholastic Storyteller for readings of all-time favorite children’s books or new releases from Scholastic!  Perfect for babies and toddlers, these stories will spark imagination and fun in your budding bookworm.  Stroller Entrance: 130 Mercer Street.

Toddler Storytime in Nolen Library @ The Metropolitan Museum of Art (UWS)

Mon-Fri 1030-11a.  Look, listen, and have fun with picture books in Nolen Library. For families with children ages 18 months–3 years. Free with Museum admission but storytime is limited to 40 people on a first-come, first-served basis. Recommended admission: Adults $25, Seniors (65+) $17, children under 12 free (with adult).

Open Play at The Learning Garden (Prospect Heights)

M-F 11-6p. Daily Pass $12. (a variety of play passes also available see website fore more information).  Our popular Open Play program is a time that offers a social learning environment for your children (ages 0-4y) to grow and learn through creative play. With our space changing and growing every week, your little explorer will have lots to discover. Materials and activities are provided to engage you and your child while sparking their imagination.
