The "New Circuit" of Parenting Books – Behavior

January 28, 2013

Parenting is hard work. I don’t think any mom or dad has ever said otherwise. And I find it to be all mini stages. If something is going well (or terribly) this month, just blink your eyes and it will surely be different next month. And bring in a second…or dare I say a third…kid in the mix and you can be thrown for a loop daily!

Our household is easing into the terrible twos with my son, but we have been in the throws of the ever-unpredictable threes (no one ever told me this existed before I had my daughter) for quite some time!

I have been recommended all types of parenting books for the last several years but the behavior ones are proving to be the most fascinating.

Positive Discipline seems to be a favorite with a lot of my friends. I have referred to it on occasion but it mostly just sits on my bedside table to make me feel better. The No Cry Discipline Solution and How to Behave so your Children Will, Too have been recommended…I haven’t pick these up yet…I have a lot of reading to do!

And when these titles get too tedious, I jump over to my new favorite, Sh*tty Mom: The Parenting Guide for the Rest of Us. A friend’s mom gave this to her for Christmas. A sample chapter header is “should you stop texting if another mom yells at your kid?”. While it is a bit over the top, I think this book will keep my humor up through the challenging days!

What are your favorite “behavior modification” books?
