I took both of my kids to Spellbound Theatre‘s new play Aidee at the Old Stone House on Saturday and it was absolutely wonderful- interactive, funny, imaginative! I went by myself with both kids (eek!) and they were both transfixed. I’ve been to a couple of Spellbound’s productions now and they never fail to impress. This little theatre company is starting to do big things! They have a couple of additional theatre productions on the calendar, weekly drop-in storytimes, and a variety of classes. I highly recommend you keep them on your radar!
Spellbound is an ensemble of puppeteers, musicians, theatre artists, and storytellers committed to creating new and innovative work for young audiences.
We believe that young people deserve sophisticated and innovative art experiences, as both audiences and art-makers, and we seek to create work that pushes past the sterotypes of children’s theatre. We are constantly inspired by the complex and imaginative world of young children and are committed to a high standard of artistry for audiences of all ages.
Spellbound Theatre is currently developing three new plays for very young audiences and their families which will all be performed in Brooklyn in 2013.
Aidee: a hide-and-seek adventure
January 19-20, The Old Stone House
Wink: a new play for the very young
May 4-12, Brooklyn Arts Exchange
Under the Tree: an immersive outdoor performance
June 2013, The Old Stone House
Spellbound’s unique creative play classes use theatrical principles and activities to support development of your child’s social, physical, and imaginative skills. Led by professional theatre artists with over 10 years experience working in early childhood, these classes are truly one-of-a-kind!
Registration is now open for our Winter Session: January 28-March 25
Spaces still open for our toddler and preschool classes, “Creative Journeys.” We will bring a new story to life each week, using drama, movement, games, and songs. This creative and active class fosters toddlers’ and preschoolers’ imaginative play, physical and social development, and pre-literacy skills.
