It’s painful getting your kids to stay up for that late night Christmas Eve service- and even more tortuous to have sleepy, cranky kids on Christmas morning. A lot of churches have accommodated families by creating earlier Christmas Eve Family Services or special Christmas Day services.
In addition, this year many churches added special caroling evenings where children are encouraged to come along and contribute their sweet voices to the group.
I just called a bunch of churches in Brooklyn and those that responded, I put their info in below. There wasn’t any method or attempt at religious inclusion or discrimination. It really was pretty random.
The Church of St. Luke and St. Matthew (Clinton Hill)
Christmas Eve: 5 pm: 15 minute craft project and 30 minute service. This “Christmas For Kids” service is fantastic. I went last year and my whole family was totally impressed with how much thought and preparation they put into the childrens’ crafts, and then how meaningful the service was for the children and parents. My favorite Christmas Eve service ever, actually. My husband and his mother went back for the 10 pm service to hear the fantastic and dedicated choir at the church. This will be the second year they are doing the “Christmas for Kids.”
