As if dealing with my children’s wildly stupefying temper tantrums and friendship woes weren’t enough to throw my life off track, my husband decided to throw in, “moving to Chicago” in the summer. And, that was it. We moved- for his new start-up and a new suburban life in the midwest after living for 17 years in NYC.
And, here we are in Chicago. All the while I have been writing to you in Brooklyn- missing you. But, it’s time for me to move on. My head feels like it will split from trying to be in two places. I have ached for you all there post-Sandy while I have been impotent in Chicago, only able to write about volunteering, not able to do it. I have lamented at being unable to see all the fabulous events we write about from the Halloween parties to the multitude of upcoming winter festivals. Sometimes I have woken up to see the weather in Brooklyn before I have looked out my own window in Chicago. My body and mind were meant to reside in one place, and so I have made a decision that it’s time for my mind to completely join my body here.
You are probably wondering why I didn’t tell you all earlier….We still have our place in Brooklyn, and I thought we would go back and forth a lot, and that I wouldn’t really be leaving Brooklyn. In fact, it turns out that flying back and forth is totally impractical, not to mention, expensive. And, though my children miss Brooklyn and their friends very much and call our quaint town here, “a ghost town”, I think I need to tell them we actually live here now- for good. It’s time. I will miss you all very much but my deepest hope is that the blog and Brooklyn Baby Expo might continue on in some form.
If so, I am selling it all with the hope that there is someone who can take it and continue to provide great local flavor to the community. If you are interested, you could purchase the digital assets: the blog (2764 posts!- egads, I spent a lot of time writing!), the twitter account, the Facebook fan page, the domains, email subscriber list, the new Marketplace, the Meetup groups and all the revenue streams that go with that. You can also purchase the turn-key of the Brooklyn Baby Expo: my rolodex, list of current and past sponsors/exhibitors and all the paperwork to get started for the next one. Please email me at Karen@achildgrows.com if you are interested and I can give you as much information as you need to consider this.
So, I’m not sure when I will officially stop updating the blog. Probably as soon as the right buyer comes forward or until my head truly splits in two from living a bicameral existence. But, I do hope that you will keep in touch. It’s been an amazing 6 years being with you all. Thank you for everything that you have given to me. I love all your emails; from those wanting to find a good pediatrician to just writing to tell me that you care. I love you, I love you, I love you.
