Free Trolley Rides with Santa and Kids Fun This Saturday

November 21, 2012

On the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend, the Fulton Area Business (FAB) Alliance in partnership with the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership present “Small Business Saturday”, November 24th from 10am-6pm, along both Fulton Street and Myrtle Avenues in Clinton Hill and Fort Greene.

Fort Greene and Clinton Hill residents and visitors of all ages are encouraged to join Santa Claus for hop-on, hop-off fun on the Free Trolley between Myrtle Avenue and Fulton Street. Please come out to enjoy shopping, family art activities, live music performances and more! The trolley route includes planned stops at Putnam Triangle Plaza and Fowler Square on Fulton Street, and at the corners of Myrtle and Washington Park and Myrtle and Waverly on Myrtle Avenue. Santa will be singing festive songs and handing out surprise treats as he rides the trolley from 12 – 4:00pm. (see entire Fulton Street / Myrtle Avenue Small Business Saturday schedule below)

In addition there are many businesses along Myrtle Avenue and Fulton Street participating in the event itself – offering refreshments, holiday sales, in-store events, and music. There will also be a month-long photo contest where participants can win $50 gift cards to use for their own holiday spending beyond Small Business Saturday. This NEW Shop Small Photo Contest, which will run thru-December 15, encourages people to snap a photo of their favorite small business on Myrtle Avenue or Fulton Street in Clinton Hill and Fort Greene and post the photo onto a special Facebook Contest page, automatically entering them to win a $50 gift card. At the end of the contest, winners will be selected at random and contacted by the FAB / Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership offices to collect their prize. (Need not be present to win.)

New York Cares Coat Drive on Small Business Saturday.

Help those affected by Hurricane Sandy and others in need throughout NYC.

Because of Hurricane Sandy and an early onset of cold weather this season, New York Cares expects the need for winter coats to more than double this year. So the FAB Alliance and Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership are hosting Coat Drive collection sites at all four Trolley stops on Small Business Saturday. “Drop-off locations are within easy walking distance for area residents, giving people yet another opportunity to pitch in during this time of extreme need.” says FAB Manager Phillip Kellogg. “We are grateful to be able to help our neighboring communities hit hard by Sandy,” continued Michael Blaise Backer, executive director of the Myrtle Avenue Brooklyn Partnership. “And we are happy to continue our ongoing shop local efforts during Small Business Saturday”.
