Free Music Fun House at Roulette

This weekend there should be a good crowd out to see Audra Rox belt out her engaging tunes at the Hip Tot Music Fest at Littlefield. On Saturday, check out relative newcomer venue on the Brooklyn scene, Roulette, for some crazy sounds that will delight your kids, but might make you crazy!

Saturday September 8th

9:30 am: Back-to-School Circle Line Cruise
Enjoy one final summer getaway on this cruise dedicated to the back-to-school theme. Kids can visit the Books of Wonder–hosted storytelling corner, take an interactive tour or rock out to a live performance by Moey’s Music Party. Child-friendly refreshments are available for purchase on board.

1pm: Roulette Kids – Free Music Funhouse
Brooklyn based Shinkoyo art and music collective founders Matthew Mehlan and Doron Sadja present the FREEMUSIC FUNHOUSE – an all ages, extraordinary extravaganza of wacky sounds, video clones, Frankenstein instruments, and guests galore! Matt and Doron will lead the group in a free multimedia improvisation, discuss why music is fun, free and easy, and teach all in attendance how to use everyday items to annoy your parents.

1:00 pm: Super Sidekick: The Musical
In this witty musical, an unassuming sidekick named Inky must step out of the heroic Blackjack’s shadow to defeat the evil villain Slurm. Can Inky single-handedly rescue the Princess from the Cave of Doom? Will he fall prey to Slurm’s secret weapon, the Terrible Tickler? And where do the ninja koalas come in? Six actors play a cast of wacky characters in this Theater Unleashed/ArtEffects co-production, which made its East Coast debut at this summer’s FringeJR. The show is now back on the theater scene as part of the FringeNYC Encore Series.

2:00 pm: Sun To Stars Festival of Asian Dance, Music and Culture
Inspired by the traditional all-night concerts along India’s Ganges River, Sun to Stars South Asian Festival presents an eclectic blend of classical, contemporary, and folk performing arts powered by solar energy. Sun to Stars evokes the traditional durbar and bethak-style concerts of India where performers and audiences interact in an informal setting to create a positive artistic experience.

Sunday September 9th

11:00 am: Tunes with Tina
Families can start off their Sundays at Tunes with Tina, an interactive musical prix-fixe brunch in midtown. Chanteuse Tina deVaron, a jazz pianist who spent six years entertaining kids at the Carlyle Hotel’s Tea with Madeline, hosts different themed shows each month: Back to Broadway (September), Let’s See Your Costume (October), Move with the Movies (November) and Here Come the Holidays (December). Sweet treats from uptown’s London Candy Company are also included in the price. Reservations are recommended.

11:30 am: Broadway on Broadway
Kick off the Broadway season with a free outdoor concert in Times Square. The event features performances from brand new shows as well as old favorites. Arrive early to secure your spot among the masses.

Hip Tot Music Fest with Audra Rox

This month the Hip Tot Music Fest will blow the lid off the toy-box with live performances from Audra Rox “Queen of the NY Kid Rock scene,” according to Time Out Kids. Also, savor Plum Organics, free goody bags, local vendors, surprise pre-concert events and giveaways.  Plum Organic also sponsors the pre-concert fest featuring performances from The Cool Beans and Jeté Dance Center; a book reading of ‘A City Is’  by Melanie Hope Greenberg ; arts and crafts with The Scrap Kins, Glitter Tattoos with Glitter Tattoo New York, Face Painting with Lady Z; Cardboard castle built by Mini Jake and Makedo and local food from Die Koelner Bierhalle .
