The last few weeks we have written about some new schools opening in Brooklyn and today, we got an announcement about a new daycare opening in Carroll Gardens.
I got an email from Sitters Studio (a well-known sitting service that has been operating for 5 years), that, starting this September they will open their first family daycare on the ground level of a brownstone in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. Studio Daycare “will provide art focused developmental care. Whether your child is performing a play with an actor to increase language skills or is painting a masterpiece with a visual artist to increase fine motor skills; Studio Daycare is founded on the principle that the arts can improve the lives of children.”
We have used Sitters Studio before (I even see one of our sitters in the photo above) and have had great experiences with the sitters: personable, fun and eager. All of them are somehow involved in the arts so the idea is that they bring a lot of creative efforts to sitting. It’s a cool idea: help young artists connect with children and in the process, support their dreams of a career in the arts. Personally, I’m glad to hear that they decided to bring their first daycare in Brooklyn despite being a Manhattan-located business. They must have heard that Brooklyn needs more daycare!
Sitters Studio Daycare will be on 3rd St. and Smith St., in Carrol Gardens (1 block from the Carroll stop) and you can do full time drop-off for ages 2 – 4 years. After school care for grade schoolers will be coming soon. The hours will be Monday – Friday, 8am – 6pm for $450/week. Sitters Studio Daycare will be limited to only 12 children.
The director is Dawn M. who “has worked at Sitters Studio for almost two years and is a favorite to many of our families. Before coming to us, Dawn spent several years as a Pre-School teacher at The Children’s Playhouse daycare on Long Island, where she ran a 2 & 3 Year Old Classroom for 2 years, and then a 4 & 5 Year Old Classroom with a Pre-K Curriculum for 2 years. There, she used art projects, songs, stories, cooking and outside play to teach social and academic skills. She is excited to merge her daycare experience with the artisitter childcare philosophy.”
They are taking applications for enrollment immediately.
