The pre-kindergarten application process can be downright frustrating in NYC as you research, apply and visit tons of schools. Despite how many schools you apply to, it doesn’t guarantee that your child will get a spot into a coveted pre-k program. In fact, according to InsideSchools.org nearly 28,815 families applied and 9,000 4-year-olds were denied a spot during the first round of pre-kindergarten applications that happened earlier this year.
Families have yet another chance to get into a school with a second round of pre-k applications. Starting online on July 18th, applications will be available both online and at an enrollment office. On Monday the 18th, The Department of Education (DOE) will also be releasing a complete directory of schools, daycare centers, and community organizations that will have availability for full and half-day programs in the fall.
The deadline to submit an online application for Round 2 is 11pm on Sunday, July 31st. You can also submit a paper application by picking them up at an enrollment office, which should be submitted by 3 pm on Friday, July 29th. All offer letters will be sent to in late August by email and standard mail.
