Summer is in full swing, and although the sprinklers provide some much needed relief, everyone keeps asking when Clermont Pool (At Parham Playground / PS 20 located Between Clermont Ave. & Adelphi St.) will open. According to NYCGovParks.org the magic date is June 29! The hours of Clermont pool are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m – they only let 25 people in at once, so sometimes you have to wait in line (especially in the afternoon).
Last year was my first summer with a child in Fort Greene, and I had heard lots of rumors from parents about Clermont pool – “Someone told me it’s really cold.” ” I heard there are a lot of crazy strict rules.” “You can’t wear certain colors there because of gang activity!” “I think it might be too crowded.” Well, forget it – although cold at the beginning of the season, it’s quite small (40′ x 20′ x 3′) and warms up quickly. Besides, it’s refreshing when it’s so hot! There aren’t really any rules except that you can’t run around the edge – and the gang / clothing thing is pure rumor. And as I mentioned before, they control the number of people who can enter, so it never gets too bad. So… no excuses, it’s time to hit the pool! You can bet my son and I will be there.
