Hi everyone!  April has flown by so fast.  Hard to believe the month is ending this week I hope you are ready for another fun week here in NYC!

This week take the kids and enjoy DIA! Diversity in Action: Día Stories, Songs and a Craft at the Central Brooklyn Public Library and there are more DIA! Monday April 24th

Rockers, Rollers, and Pre-Crawlers at Tot Town (Crown Heights)
Mondays 11-11:45am. 8 week series beginning April 24th (no class 5/8 and 5/29). $25 per child drop in or $185 8-week package/50% sibling surcharge. Max group size 10 ~ Included in Tot Town membership. Age 4 months to 7 months. In these fun and practical classes, you will learn techniques for nurturing your baby’s development and sense of self through touch, movement, facial expression, rhythm and song. Parents and caretakers learn to support and encourage learning movements that will become the building blocks for balanced, coordinated sitting, crawling, walking and more.  See the website for additional classes.

Put a Poem in Your Pocket! at the St. Agnes NYPL (UWS)
Monday April 24th 330p.  Free.  Location: Community Program Room.  This Program is for children ages 5-11.  Every April, on Poem in Your Pocket Day, people celebrate by selecting a poem, carrying it with them, and sharing it with others throughout the day.  We will have some of our favorite poems to share with you.  Please bring a favorite poem to share with us.  Come to the Library on Monday at 3:30 to add to our “Poe-Tree”.

DIA! Diversity in Action: Día Stories, Songs and a Craft at the Central Brooklyn Public Library
Monday April 24th 4-5p.  Free.  Kids of all ages~ come to the Youth Wing to enjoy stories, songs, and rhymes in different languages, from Spanish, to Russian, to Hindi, and more! You don’t have to know another language to have fun!! You’ll also get to do a small craft to take home and enjoy the memories!  See the BPL website for other DIA! Tuesday April 25th

In a Pickle at BAM (Fort Greene)
Tuesday-Friday April 25th-28th 1030a, Saturday-Sunday April 29th-30th 1030a & 330p.  All tickets $15.  Run time 55 minutes.  Inspired by Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, this innovative theater piece takes children on a voyage of discovery through landscapes of Shakespeare’s imagination and the music of his language. When a shepherdess and her flock of little sheep discover a lost baby, the audience must join in the search for the child’s family, a journey that will take them through the forest and across the sea. Full of scents, textures, colors, and songs, this immersive sensory experience is sure to delight and inform younger audiences about the power of their own imaginations.  Part of BAMkids.  Note: Wednesday, April 26 at 1030a & Saturday, April 29 at 1030a are Relaxed Performances.  See website for all the details.

Stomp, Clap & Sing with Mil’s Trills at the Central Brooklyn Public Library
Tuesday April 25th 11a-12n.  Free.  Mil’s Trills is a children’s music project led by Amelia Robinson that invites families to celebrate the community through original tunes and a cast of musical guests. A highly interactive experience, audiences are encouraged to be part of the show and discover a world of instruments.

Wind Tunnel Robots with Brooklyn Robot Foundry at the Hudson Park NYPL (West Village)
Tuesday April 25th 4p.  Free.  Recommended for ages 2-4.  There is a limit of 15 participants so please register in advance either in person or by phone at 212-243-6876.  Join Brooklyn Robot Foundry as they read a robot story and then help us create robots to fly in our wind tunnel!

Wednesday April 26th

Stomp, Clap & Sing with Dad Beats at the Dyker Brooklyn Public Library
Wednesday April 26th 1030-1130a.  Free.  The Dad Beats are a power quartet wrapped in a playdate with a hootenanny garnish!  Made up of four real live Brooklyn dads, the Dad Beats traverse surf, rock and country grooves to deliver playful re-imaginings of your childhood favorites.

Free Yoga Storytime at Karma Kids Yoga (West Village)
Wednesdays 1130a-12n.   Free.  For infant-6yrs.  StoryTime comes alive with puppets, songs, and yoga poses.  Carefully selected stories that naturally lend themselves to yoga! As we read we’ll come across animals and elements of nature that we know from yoga…we’ll stop the story, do the yoga pose, then continue with our story.

Open Play at Monkey Do! Yoga (Gowanus)
Wednesdays 1p-5p.  Drop in $10 (per caregiver/child pair). Additional Sibling $6.  Packages available also.  For ages 0-6y.  Move and play!  Make friends in space that’s perfect for little ones and toddlers to explore and climb.  This free play time is designed to get parents, caregivers and the kids out of the house, connecting with each other and having fun!  They can enjoy moving around in our kid-friendly environment, and weather permitting, the backyard too.  Check website for additional Open Play days/times.

Stomp, Clap & Sing with Conroy Warren at the Kings Highway Brooklyn Public Library
Thursday April 27th 11a-12n.  Free.  Feeling the beat! Enjoy the power and pleasure of Jazz, Calypso and Reggae through singing and dancing in this interactive performance with versatile entertainer Conroy Warren. It’s fun!  It’s exciting!

Free Cone Day at Carvel (various locations)
Thursday April 27th 3-8p.  America’s Freshest Ice Cream® is kicking off ice cream season by celebrating their annual Free Cone Day Thursday. Guests who visit participating shoppes will be treated to a FREE junior soft ice cream cone filled with their choice of freshly made vanilla, chocolate or Cookie Butter – Carvel’s newest, limited-time flavor, inspired by the irresistibly creamy, spreadable treat from Lotus Biscoff®.  As if getting FREE ice cream doesn’t feel good enough, Carvel is partnering for the sixth year with The American Red Cross to spread good will in support of the charity’s annual Giving Day. Storytelling Through Art at Private Picassos Studio (Park Slope)
Thursdays 4:15-5p until June 22nd. NEW CLASS! For 8-12 years.  $28/drop-in (space permitting; pre-registration is encouraged) or $250/ten week semester — $25/class when signing up for the full semester (or remainder of).  Students will learn about different methods of storytelling through art.  Bookmaking, self portraits, comics and multi-media art will be explored, getting inspiration from fine artist’s work, children’s literature and street art!

Ongoing Events

ARTech: Adventures In Art + Techchnology (Meatpacking District)
Wednesdays-Thursdays 3-7p and Saturdays-Sundays 10a-5p until April 29th. Free and open to the public. RSVP is required for a timed entry slot. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled time. The Meatpacking Business Improvement District (BID) is proud to invite you to experience ARTech: Adventures in Art + Technology! ARTech is a two-month long pop-up activity center comprised of STEAM-based (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) experiential workshops, installations, and interactive moments for school age children + their accompanying adults. Note: Each attendee is allowed 1 hour within the space to engage with the various stations. A 15 minute warning announcement will be announced before leaving the space. Kids’ Discovery Stations at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Tuesdays-Fridays until June 2nd 1015a-1215p.   Free with Garden admission.  This is a drop-in program for schools and families with children of all ages.  Get your hands dirty at kids’ discovery stations throughout the Garden. Investigate and classify plants, touch a carnivorous plant and learn how it eats, or go on a monarch and milkweed exploration in the meadow!  All programs are outdoors and canceled in inclement weather.

The Princess, The Emperor and the Duck at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)
Tuesday-Fridays 1030a & 12n and Saturdays & Sundays 1p until September 17th. Tickets are $8/children and $12/adults. A modern retelling of three classic Han Christian Andersen tales. Set in Africa, China and our own Central Park, The Princess, The Emperor, and The Duck retells storyteller Hans Christian Andersen’s world-famous fairy tales — The Princess and the Pea, The Emperor’s New Clothes and The Ugly Duckling — bringing the Theatre to life with new marionettes and hand painted scenery. Guided by a narrating Owl, audience members fly into each story with the original tales that teach important life lessons still relevant to children today.

Drop in Play at SPARK by Brooklyn Children’s Museum (DUMBO)
Wednesdays 1-5p, Thursday 1-6p (admission is free Thursdays) and Fridays-Sunday 1-5p. $15/child. (BCM Passport Members enjoy free admission). Each day at SPARK, kids can: BUILD IT! Design your own structures in our popular exhibit Brooklyn Block Lab. MAKE IT! Creativity abounds in our art activities that change each week. TOUCH IT! Get cozy in our Discovery Den featuring soft play and reading space, and a series of discovery drawers that hold treasures from our collection as well as tactile materials for little hands to explore.

Play Space Spring Schedule at Juguemos a Cantar (South Slope)
M-F 9a-12n and 330-530p until April 28th. $12 per visit / Sibling $3 per visit. There is no registration required for Drop-In Sessions. You can enjoy our playspace as a DROP IN (pay as you come), with our PLAY PASSES (pre-pay visits), or have a MEMBERSHIP (unlimited visits for 1 month). Juguemos a Cantar Drop-In Play Space offers a social learning environment that includes exploration and interaction for kids 0 to 4y. A large, clean, well-equipped, airy indoor play area full of fun, music, a play kitchen, blocks, trains, doll houses, working bench, tools, puppets, soft play area, ball pit, books, craft table, & more. Monday: Singalong with Damian & his drums (Spanish & English) 1015a, Tuesday: Singalong with Ivan & his drums 1015a, Wednesday: Singalong with Ale (Spanish/English) 1015a, Thursday: Singalong with Tucker 1015a and Friday: Sing Along with Andrew from Rolie Polie Guacamole Band (English) 1030a.

Open Play & Activities at Recess (DUMBO)
Monday-Thursday 9a-530p, Friday 9a-5p and Saturday-Sundays 9a–1130a*. Drop in $30 first child, $20 per additional child. Memberships/play packs also available for purchase. (Please also bring socks for kids and adults). At Recess, we understand the value of flexibility and convenience. Your kids may come in and play anytime during our scheduled play hours. We’re ready when you are! Recess offers free weekly classes for members and drop-ins! Recess Story Time (0 – 3 yrs), Monday at 11a & Tuesday at 3p. Recess Craft (6 mos – 3 yrs),Thursdays at 230p. *Weekend afternoons are reserved for birthday parties.

Twinkle Playspace (Williamsburg)
Monday-Friday 10a–6p and Saturday-Sunday 8a-1130a. First Time Pass – $25 (only for the first time). $35 for additional visits. Memberships also available. Located in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, Twinkle’s 4500 square foot play space has innovative custom-made exhibits to cater to any child’s wildest imagination. These special exhibits, designed for the under 6 crowd, are a harmonious blend of urban life and nature that encourages the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of a child in an accessible, high-quality learning environment. Twinkle hosts open play 7 days a week and children can also have an unforgettable birthday with exclusive use of our playspace! So drift away and enjoy the ride with your child in this magical journey to a world of infinite discoveries and treasured moments. Twinkle is a socks-only environment so please keep this in mind for children and adults entering the playspace. Parental supervision is required at all times, no drop-offs allowed. Parking is available under the BQE (Brooklyn-Queens Expressway) which is only a block away from us as well as street parking.

Open Play at Curiosity on Court (Cobble Hill)
Monday-Friday 10a-6p & Saturday-Sunday 9a-6p. Open Play drop-in: $25 per child, $45 for 2 siblings, $6- for 3 siblings. Weekday monthly passes and pass packages also available. Welcome to Curiosity on Court, a world of energy busting excitement! Our custom designed play structures and exhibits were created to raise the curiosity and fuel the imagination of kids 1–10 yrs old. Whether they’re conquering our climbing wall, taking a ride on the subway, making connections on the magnetic wall or finding their route through our multi-level play structure, there’s hours of fun for everyone. Ed Center in Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 1
Tuesdays & Thursdays 3-5p and also Saturdays and Sundays from 1–5p. Free. The Ed Center is open for free, drop-in hours three afternoons a week! Get to know Brooklyn Bridge Park with our 250 gallon aquarium filled with critters from the East River, a 10’ scale model of Brooklyn Bridge Park, crafts, a reading corner, and much more!
