Classes for you & your child & a free open swim (bring a swimcap!)
I am a bit jealous of our kids…new classes, new friends- what about (sigh), me? Well, Long Island University has found an interesting way of combining their Children’s Academy with their School of Continuing Studies so parents can take classes alongside their kids. Beginning October 9th, Saturday classes will offer 10 week sessions for parents to learn and exercise their bods while their kids do the same! Some of the classes will include: dance, music, theater, fashion design, ceramics, multimedia, languages, science, technology, robotics, basketball, swimming, tennis, softball, soccer, fitness training and yoga. Whew…is that all?!
They are also offering a membership option which would include:
- discounts on classes
- access to their Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center (WRAC) on membership days
- Special workshops for families
They have an Open House this Saturday, September 25th from 10 am- 1 pm to learn about it and to have a free swim in their gorgeous pool. We have taken Imagine Swimming classes with our son there and we love the facility (not to mention the classes are nothing short of fantastic). While not the warmest pool in Brooklyn, at a steady 83 degrees, it seems just fine when you add in the nice benches and tranquil environment.
For the open swim, the pool closes at 12 pm and swim caps are required. (If you need one, I suggest going to any of the YMCAs and buying one of theirs- they aren’t latex so they fit nicely and comfortably on your child’s head).
